Ingredients
  

  • 1 pound 450g ground beef
  • 1 medium onion finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder optional but lovely
  • 1 cup 100–120g shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup Bisquick baking mix
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs

Optional toppings for serving:

  • Ketchup
  • Mustard
  • Diced tomatoes
  • Shredded lettuce

Instructions
 

Step 1: Preheat the Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Lightly grease your 9-inch pie dish with butter or cooking spray so nothing sticks.

Step 2: Brown the Beef

  • Place a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and chopped onion. Cook, breaking up the meat with a wooden spoon, until the beef is fully browned and the onion is soft and translucent. This usually takes about 7–8 minutes.
  • Drain any excess grease if necessary. Stir in the salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Taste carefully and adjust seasoning if needed.

Step 3: Assemble the Base

  • Spread the cooked beef mixture evenly into the prepared pie dish. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the top, making sure it is evenly distributed.

Step 4: Prepare the Bisquick Mixture

  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the Bisquick, milk, and eggs until smooth. Do not overmix; just blend until combined. The batter will be fairly thin.

Step 5: Pour and Bake

  • Carefully pour the batter over the beef and cheese. It will look like the liquid is sitting on top, but during baking, it will rise and surround the filling.
  • Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.

Step 6: Rest and Slice

  • Allow the pie to rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing. This helps it firm up and makes serving easier.
  • Cut into wedges and serve warm with your favorite burger-style toppings.
