Equipment

  • Small saucepan
  • Whisk
  • Measuring cups and spoons.
  • Heatproof spatula
  • Glass jar or airtight container for storage

Ingredients

  • ½ cup hot sauce Frank’s RedHot Original works best
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper optional, for extra heat
  • Pinch of salt to taste

Instructions

Step 1: Melt the Butter

  • Place a small saucepan over low heat. Add the butter and let it melt slowly. Don’t rush this — browning the butter will change the flavor.

Step 2: Add the Hot Sauce

  • Once the butter is fully melted, whisk in the hot sauce until smooth.

Step 3: Balance the Flavor

  • Add honey, vinegar, garlic powder, smoked paprika, cayenne (if using), and a small pinch of salt.

Step 4: Simmer Gently

  • Let the sauce simmer on low heat for 3–5 minutes, whisking occasionally. It should thicken slightly and look glossy.

Step 5: Taste and Adjust

  • Taste it. This is the fun part.
  • More honey for sweetness.
  • More hot sauce for tang.
  • More cayenne for heat.

Step 6: Cool and Store

  • Remove from heat and let it cool slightly. Transfer to a jar or container.
  • That’s it. You’re officially a sauce-maker.
