Equipment

Ingredients
  

  • ½ cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • ½ cup water
  • 2 tablespoons butter lightly packed
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp honey can be replaced with maple syrup, as an option
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp grated garlic or fresh grated garlic, should you feel like it
  • ½ tsp ground ginger
  • 1 tsp cornstarch plus 2 tsp water not essential, to make the sauce a little thicker

Instructions
 

  • In a small saucepan, mix soy sauce, water, brown sugar, vinegar, honey, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger.
  • Add the mixture to a medium heat and cook until the sugar dissolves.
  • Thicken (optional): Add a slurry of cornstarch in case you would like to have the sauce slightly thicker. Allow it to cook 2-3 minutes more till shiny.
  • Take it out of the heat, allow it to cool, and then put it in a jar.
  • Store in the fridge for a maximum of 1 week. Shake before using.
