Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • Whisk or spoon
  • Measuring cups and spoons.
  • Small bowl (for mixing ingredients)
  • Basting brush (optional, for wings)

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup BBQ sauce smoky style works best
  • 1/4 cup hot sauce Frank’s-style preferred
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Optional: pinch of cayenne for extra heat

Instructions

Step 1: Melt the Butter

  • Place a saucepan over medium heat and melt the butter gently. Don’t brown it — just melt.

Step 2: Add Sauces and Sweetener

  • Add BBQ sauce, hot sauce, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, and apple cider vinegar. Stir well to combine.

Step 3: Season the Sauce

  • Add garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, black pepper, and cayenne if using. Whisk until smooth.

Step 4: Simmer

  • Lower the heat and let the sauce simmer for 8–10 minutes. Stir occasionally. It should thicken slightly and look glossy.

Step 5: Taste and Adjust

  • Taste the sauce. Add more hot sauce for heat, brown sugar for sweetness, or vinegar for tang.
  • Remove from heat and let it cool slightly before tossing with wings.
