Equipment

  • A sharp knife to chop pickles and onions.

  • A whisk or spoon for mixing

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup mayonnaise the creamy base
  • 2 tbsp dill pickles chopped fine (to add crunch and tang)
  • 1 tbsp sweet relish to add some sweetness
  • 1 tbsp onion extremely fine minced.
  • 1 tsp lemon juice to add lightness
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard optional, to add richness
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • Pinch of salt to taste

Instructions
 

  • The pickles and onions must be chopped very finely to ensure the sauce remains smooth.
  • Add the mayonnaise, lemon juice, and Dijon mustard to a bowl. Whisk until smooth.
  • Add chopped pickles, relish, onion, garlic powder, black pepper, and salt.
  • Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 h and then serve. This enables the flavors to blend.
  • Pair with fried catfish, shrimp, hush puppies, crab cakes or even roasted potatoes.
