Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Wooden spoon or clean hands for mixing
  • Standard loaf pan or sheet pan
  • Aluminum foil
  • Measuring cups
  • Small bowl for glaze
  • Oven mitts
  • Sharp knife for slicing

Ingredients

For the Meatloaf

  • 2 pounds ground beef preferably 80/20
  • 1 packet Lipton Onion Soup Mix
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/3 cup ketchup
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

For the Glaze

  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon mustard optional but great

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350 F.
  • In a large bowl, combine ground beef, onion soup mix, eggs, breadcrumbs, milk, ketchup, Worcestershire, garlic powder, and black pepper.
  • Mix everything gently but thoroughly. Overmixing can make the meatloaf tough.
  • Transfer the mixture into a loaf pan or shape it by hand on a lined sheet pan.
  • In a small bowl, stir together the glaze ingredients.
  • Spread half the glaze on top of the meatloaf.
  • Bake for 45 minutes.
  • Add the remaining glaze and bake another 15 to 20 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 160 F.
  • Let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
  • Serve warm with mashed potatoes, roasted veggies, or simple buttered rice.
