A skillet or frying pan in which to brown the beef.
A mixing bowl for the filling.
Toothpicks or not to open up the rolls (lifesaver in case you are new to this).
A heavy skillet or fryer is needed to achieve that golden crunch.
And, there were plenty of paper towels to catch the additional oil.
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 packet taco seasoning or homemade blend
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese or a mix with Monterey Jack
- 10 –12 small flour tortillas
- Oil for frying vegetable or canola
- Optional: diced jalapeños black beans, or corn
Cook the beef. Cook it in a skillet on medium heat and remove the excess grease.
Season it. Add taco seasoning and only a drop of water, and simmer until it smells wonderful.
Get cheesy. Add in your shredded cheese and allow it to melt directly into the meat.
Roll ‘em up. Put a scoop of filling into each tortilla, roll, and secure with a toothpick, as necessary.
Fry ‘em. Heat your oil to approximately 350°F and fry until golden and crispy, turning as necessary.
Serve hot. Place them on paper towels and wait a few more minutes, and then dive right in and continue to feast on them when they are still sizzling.
