Ingredients
  

For the Noodles

  • 8 oz lo mein noodles egg noodles, or spaghetti
  • 1 tablespoon salt for boiling water

For the Ground Beef

  • 1 lb ground beef 80/20 recommended
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil optional, if beef is very lean
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger minced or grated

For the Mongolian Sauce

  • ½ cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • cup brown sugar packed
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce optional but recommended
  • ½ cup beef broth or water
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil

Optional Garnishes

  • 3 green onions sliced
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes optional

Instructions
 

Step 1: Cook the Noodles

  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the noodles according to package instructions until just tender. Drain and set aside.

Step 2: Brown the Ground Beef

  • Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon. Drain excess grease if needed.

Step 3: Add Garlic and Ginger

  • Reduce heat to medium. Add the minced garlic and ginger to the beef and cook for 30–45 seconds, stirring constantly until fragrant.

Step 4: Make the Sauce

  • In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, hoisin sauce, beef broth, cornstarch, and sesame oil until smooth.

Step 5: Simmer the Sauce

  • Pour the sauce into the skillet with the beef. Stir well and let it simmer for 2–3 minutes until thickened and glossy.

Step 6: Add the Noodles

  • Add the cooked noodles directly into the skillet. Toss everything together until the noodles are evenly coated in sauce.

Step 7: Finish and Serve

  • Remove from heat and garnish with green onions, sesame seeds, or red pepper flakes. Serve hot.
