Equipment

  • Medium saucepan or skillet
  • Whisk
  • Wooden spoon or silicone spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons.
  • Cheese grater for fresh Parmesan (optional but recommended)
  • Ladle (for serving)

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup 1 stick unsalted butter
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 1/2 cups freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning optional
  • Fresh parsley chopped for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Step 1: Melt the Butter

  • In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Make sure it doesn’t brown; you want it just melted and ready to combine with the cream.

Step 2: Add Garlic

  • Add the minced garlic to the butter and sauté for about 1–2 minutes until fragrant. Be careful not to burn it, as burnt garlic can taste bitter and overpower the sauce.

Step 3: Add Heavy Cream

  • Slowly pour in the heavy cream, whisking constantly to combine with the butter and garlic. Allow the mixture to heat until it just starts to simmer. Do not let it boil aggressively; gentle heat ensures a creamy texture.

Step 4: Add Parmesan

  • Gradually add the freshly grated Parmesan cheese while continuously whisking. This helps the cheese melt evenly and prevents clumping. The sauce will thicken as the cheese melts, becoming silky and smooth.

Step 5: Season and Simmer

  • Add salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning if using. Stir to combine and let the sauce simmer gently for 2–3 minutes, whisking occasionally. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.

Step 6: Serve

  • Toss the Alfredo sauce immediately with your favorite cooked pasta, such as fettuccine or penne. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley for a pop of color and freshness. Serve hot, and enjoy the creamy, garlicky indulgence.
