Equipment

  • Medium mixing bowl
  • Whisk or fork
  • Measuring cups and spoons.
  • Garlic press (optional)
  • Airtight container or jar for storage
  • Small cutting board and knife for herbs

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 1 tsp dried parsley or 1 tbsp fresh, chopped
  • 1 tsp dried dill or 1 tbsp fresh, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp fresh lemon juice optional, for extra tang

Instructions

Step 1: Combine the Base

  • In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, sour cream, and buttermilk until smooth. These three ingredients form the creamy foundation of your ranch dressing, so make sure there are no lumps.

Step 2: Add Garlic and Herbs

  • Add the minced garlic, parsley, dill, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Whisk until everything is evenly combined. If you’re using fresh herbs, chop them finely to distribute flavor evenly.

Step 3: Adjust Flavor

  • Taste your dressing and adjust the seasoning. Add a bit more salt, pepper, or lemon juice to achieve the perfect balance of tangy, creamy, and herby flavors.

Step 4: Chill (Optional but Recommended)

  • For best flavor, cover the bowl and refrigerate the ranch for at least 30 minutes. This allows the herbs and garlic to meld into the creamy base. The dressing will thicken slightly as it chills.

Step 5: Serve and Store

  • Serve the ranch as a salad dressing, dip, or sauce. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days. Give it a quick whisk before serving, as it may thicken or separate slightly in the fridge.
