Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup whole milk or almond, oat, or coconut milk
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger or 1/2 teaspoon freshly grated ginger
  • A small pinch of ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup adjust to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract optional but lovely
  • Tiny pinch of salt

Optional garnish:

  • Extra sprinkle of cinnamon
  • Light dusting of turmeric
  • A few strands of saffron for a special touch

Instructions
 

Step 1: Warm the Milk

  • Pour the milk into a small saucepan and place it over medium-low heat. Do not let it boil. You want it gently steaming, not bubbling aggressively. Stir occasionally so it does not stick to the bottom.

Step 2: Add the Spices

  • Once the milk is warm, add the ground turmeric, cinnamon, ginger, black pepper, and salt. Whisk continuously to prevent clumps. Turmeric can sometimes settle, so keep stirring.

Step 3: Sweeten and Flavor

  • Add honey or maple syrup and the vanilla extract. Continue to whisk for about 3–4 minutes. Let the flavors blend together as the milk becomes golden and fragrant.

Step 4: Simmer Gently

  • Lower the heat and let the mixture simmer very gently for another 2–3 minutes. Do not boil. This helps the spices bloom and deepen in flavor.

Step 5: Strain and Serve

  • If you prefer a very smooth drink, strain the mixture into your mug using a fine mesh strainer. Otherwise, pour it directly into your favorite cup.

Step 6: Garnish

  • Sprinkle a little cinnamon on top and serve warm. Hold the mug, breathe in, and enjoy slowly.
