Equipment

  • Blender or food processor
  • Cutting board
  • Sharp knife
  • Measuring spoons
  • Mixing bowl
  • Spoon
  • Airtight container for storage

Ingredients

  • 1 can 400 g whole peeled tomatoes, drained
  • 2 medium fresh tomatoes roughly chopped
  • 1/2 small white onion chopped
  • 1 to 2 jalapenos seeded (adjust to taste)
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro leaves
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt adjust to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon sugar optional
  • 2 tablespoons water only if needed

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare Ingredients

  • Wash all fresh vegetables thoroughly. Chop tomatoes and onion into large pieces so they blend evenly.

Step 2: Blend

  • Add canned tomatoes, fresh tomatoes, onion, jalapenos, garlic, cilantro, lime juice, salt, and sugar to your blender or food processor.
  • Pulse a few times until you reach your desired consistency. Do not over-blend. Salsa should still have texture.

Step 3: Taste and Adjust

  • Taste the salsa. Add more salt, lime juice, or jalapeno if needed. If it is too thick, add a tablespoon of water at a time.

Step 4: Chill

  • Transfer salsa to a bowl and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. This helps flavors blend together.
