Equipment

  • Mason jar with a lid and a cocktail shaker.
  • Jigger or measuring cup
  • Citrus juicer
  • Huge margarita glasses or hurricane glasses.
  • Ice cubes
  • Salt/sugar rim plates - small.

Ingredients

For the Drink

  • 2 oz tequila silver or reposado
  • 1 oz light rum
  • 1 oz triple sec or orange liqueur
  • 2 oz orange juice
  • 1 oz pineapple juice
  • 1 oz lime juice freshly squeezed
  • ½ oz grenadine syrup
  • ½ oz simple syrup optional, for extra sweetness
  • Ice cubes

For the Garnish

  • Lime wheel or wedge
  • Orange slice
  • Maraschino cherry optional but beautiful

For the Rim

  • Coarse salt and granulated sugar mix 50/50
  • Lime wedge to wet the rim

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Rim

  • Wipe the edge of your glass with a piece of lime. Dip it in a blend of salt and sugar because of that sweet-salty contrast in it. Set it aside.

Step 2: Mix the Base

  • Put half a shaker (or mason jar) of ice. Stir tequila, rum, triple sec, orange juice, pineapple juice, lime juice, and simple syrup.

Step 3: Shake it Like You Mean It

  • Close the shaker and shake intensively (approximately 15 20 seconds). This cools and froths the drink and provides it with that refreshing frothy tendency.

Step 4: Pour and Swirl

  • Add fresh ice to your ready glass. Shake the cocktail with the ice. Pour in the grenadine slowly on top of the beverage it will sink to form that beautiful two-tone effect of the sunset.

Step 5: Garnish and Serve

  • Serve with a wheel of lime, an orange slice, and a cherry, in case you are fancy.
  • At this point, you can take your first gulp: sweet, tangy, citrusy touch with a warm sensation of tequila in the end.
