Frog Jam Recipe

Frog Jam Recipe

Every now and then, a recipe will come by to halt and make you say, Wait, huh, what did you call it? That was me the first time I heard of the Frog Jam Recipe. This instantly flung my thoughts through a green, slimy concoction (I know, it is not appetizing).

I recall the initial occasion when I had had it when I had sampled it in one of the farmers’ markets, and it was adjacent to stalls of strawberry jam and peach butter, which were homemade. I was provided with a sample by the vendor on a small cracker, and the first bite made me addicted.

Figs were added, and the raspberries sang, and the orange zest was tossed up in the breeze, and then–bam! Bam!–the ginger struck it with that warmness at the same time that made it all complete. I knew at that moment that I was forced to go home and make it myself.

What Is Frog Jam?

Frog Jam has nothing to do with actual frogs; the name was simply a nice acronym. The F is the figs which form the jammy and thick bottom. The R is raspberries, which give it a tangy taste and crispy flavor.

The O introduces the orange juice and zest to it, to slice it with citrusy freshness. And last of all, there is that spice, that ginger of secrets, which gives a little warmth and a little zing.

The whole mixture is a jam that is sweet yet spicy, tangy, and there is no end to how it can be utilized. Frog Jam is not an ordinary jam, which simply depends on the taste of one fruit, but it is rather a set of flavors, which are fancy and, nevertheless, comfortable enough to put on the toast.

Reasons why you will love this Frog Jam Recipe.

It is so much about this Frog Jam recipe that you can fall in love. It is not only a sweet spread, but it is a blend of flavors that go out to play with each other like magic.

The figs provide body and natural sweetness, the raspberries bring everything to the table with their brightness, the Orange zest and juice make everything alive, and the ginger brings it all together with a slight kick.

You will enjoy it since it is not monotonous. It is not cloying, yet sweet, nor heavy, yet rich, nor dull, but interesting enough to make you feel special every time you have it. Spoon it on warm biscuits, serve it with cheese, or make it into a glaze for chicken, and it makes mundane into monumental.

The secrets to making it just right.

Take some overripe or frozen fruit –they are sweeter by nature, and jam down wonderfully.

Do not add too little ginger – It counterbalances the sweetness.

Low heat is your friend –High heat is dangerous, as soon as sugar is added to it, it can become grainy.

Add sugar to taste- Add sugar when your fruit is sweet or tart.

Continuous stirring- This jam must remain smooth.

Out of the Toast:  Ideas to Use Frog Jam.

  • Put on warm biscuits, croissants, or toast.
  • Dollop goat cheese/brie as a fancy appetizer.
  • Serve as a pork, chicken, or even salmon glaze.
  • Fruits: Add to the next bowl of Greek yogurt or oatmeal.
  • Pour over cheesecake, ice cream, or pound cake.
  • Pour into sandwiches made of grilled cheese (believe me, it is wonderful).

Variations Worth Playing With

Frog Jam, Spiced — throw in cinnamon, cloves, or cardamom to make things warm.

Boozy Frog Jam- Add one swirl of bourbon or brandy at the end.

Tropical Frog Jam- Replace part of the fig with dried apricots or mango.

Frog Jam Low-Sugar- buy jam kept in two-quarter sugar should be modified by replacing pectin with half low-sugar pectin, and halving the sugar.

Berry-Chocked Jam – Add more raspberries to a more lively and tangy jam.

Final Thoughts

When I initially prepared the Frog Jam, I believed that it would be a funny recipe to follow. The thing that I was not expecting appeared to be the speed at which it became a kitchen staple. Each lot tastes like filling little jars of happiness- members of the sunny, sweet, sour, and just virulent enough to make it interesting.

It is not a jam to spread on toast, but rather a conversation starter as far as this Frog Jam recipe is concerned. It is the type of jam that has to be shared at the table, the jam that everyone inquires about, the jam that you receive and cannot help but give a jar to the whole family. And honestly? It is the type of culinary dish that will make you fall in love with the cooking process once again, easy, fun, and most importantly, delicious.
